Enhancing skills: Ongoing education for emergency department nurses

8. Nov. 2019. | Continuing professional training of emergency medicine workers - project activities

As part of the project “Continuing professional training of emergency medicine workers”, the first exercise for nurses in the emergency departments started yesterday in Vodice. „Nurses are the largest group of staff in emergency departments, and they play a crucial role in all aspects of emergency care, from patient admission and care to observation and transportation to other departments or home discharge. This demands a high level of knowledge, skills, responsibility, and experience”, stated the director of the Croatian Institute of Emergency Medicine (CIEM) Maja Grba-Bujević.

To enhance the security, tenacity, and expertise in their work, CIEM integrated the EP5 training programme for nurses in emergency departments into the project “Continuing professional training of emergency medicine workers”. By November 10, 2019, thirty professionals from general hospitals Dubrovnik, Gospić, Zadar, and Šibenik, as well as the University Hospital Centre Split, will complete this program. The educational program will be conducted by a team of national instructors including Branka Bardak, Ivan Brdar, Kata Ivanisević, Katja Kudrna Prašek, Marina Friščić, Nina Lovrić and Zoran Vidović, under the guidance of Radmila Majhen Ujević and according to the materials developed within the project. The program provides sufficient time to acquire new knowledge and skills through practical work and simulation of the actual situations and conditions in the emergency departments.

The project “Continuing professional training of emergency medicine workers” is co-financed by resources from the European Social Fund and implemented by the Croatian Institute of Emergency Medicine with the aim of maintaining and improving the knowledge and skills of emergency medicine workers, while at the same time advancing healthcare in the Republic of Croatia and improving access to high quality health services.
