Emergency Department
The emergency department is a single-entry point for all emergency patients, available 24/7, which aligns with the global practice of modern, well-organized healthcare systems. It is a department that in one place receives, examines, diagnoses and treats patients with emergency conditions. The emergency department includes triage, modern diagnostics, an emergency laboratory, a resuscitation room, an emergency operating room, and a space for the accommodation and monitoring of acute patients, with modern equipment that ensures greater safety and more accurate diagnostics.
By adopting the Standard for medical equipment, medical devices and equipment for performing hospital emergency medicine, the emergency department structure and premises have been defined and the prerequisites for the purchase of standard equipment and devices for all the hospitals have been established, while the Training programme of basic educational exercises for workers performing triage in emergency medicine enabled conducting single triage of patients at the emergency department according to the degree of urgency. Such practice ensures the same level of hospital emergency medical care in all hospitals with emergency departments in the Republic of Croatia.
