The world is already feeling the effects of heat waves, and they are likely to increase. In Europe, there has been an increase in deaths associated with extreme heat, and estimates indicate that heat waves are likely to increase health risks, causing serious health and social consequences. Measure the room temperature between 8 and 10 a.m., at 1 p.m., and at night after 10 p.m. Ideally, keep the room temperature below 90 \u00b0F (32 \u00b0C) during the day and below 75 \u00b0F (24 \u00b0C) at night. This is especially important for children or if you are over 60 or have chronic health conditions.<br \/>Use the cooler night air to cool your home. Open all windows or blinds at night and in the early morning hours when the outside temperature is lower (if possible).<br \/>Reduce the amount of hot air inside your apartment or house. Close windows and blinds (if you have them) during the day, especially those facing the sun. Turn off all artificial lights and as many electrical appliances as possible.<br \/>Put screens, drapes, awnings on windows that get morning or afternoon sun.<br \/>When you turn on the cooling device (air-conditioning), close the doors and windows so that they do not consume more energy than necessary.<br \/>Electric fans can provide relief and refreshment, but if the temperature is above 35 \u00b0C they will not prevent heat-related illnesses.<br \/>Avoid the heat:<\/p>\n<p>Take shelter in the coldest room of the apartment\/house, especially at night.<br \/>If you can&#8217;t keep the apartment\/house cool,\u00a0spend 2-3 hours a day in a cold space\u00a0(eg public building that is cooled).<br \/>Avoid going out\u00a0during the hottest part of the day.<br \/>Avoid strenuous physical work.If you have to work hard, do it at the coolest time of the day, which is usually between 4 and 7 in the morning.<br \/>Look for the shadow.<br \/>Do not leave children or animals in a parked vehicle.<br \/>Regularly use creams with a protective factor against harmful UV radiation.Special care should be given to newborns and small children. For them, you should use sunscreen with the highest factor.<br \/>Adjust your exposure to the sun&#8217;s UV radiation, taking into account daily changes in the UV index.<br \/>Cool your body and drink enough fluids:<\/p>\n<p>Avoid being in the sun between 10 am and 5 pm, especially children, pregnant women, the elderly, and heart patients and patients with diabetes<br \/>Take a shower or bath in lukewarm water. Another option is to wrap yourself in cold wet towels, cool yourself with a wet sponge, take foot baths, etc.<br \/>Wear light, loose, and light-colored clothing made from natural materials. If you go outside, wear a wide-brimmed hat or cap and sunglasses.<br \/>Use light bedding and sheets, preferably without pillows, to avoid heat accumulation.<br \/>Drink regularly, but avoid alcohol and drinks with too much caffeine and sugar. It is important to drink enough fluids but not abruptly.<br \/>Eat small meals more often. Avoid foods high in protein.<br \/>Help others:<\/p>\n<p>Visit family, friends and neighbours who spend most of their time alone. Vulnerable people may need help on hot days<br \/>Talk about heatstroke with family members. Given their health and activities, each family member should know what protective measures they need to take.<br \/>If someone you know is at risk, help them get advice and support. Elderly people and sick people who live alone should be visited at least once a day.<br \/>If they are taking medication, check with their doctor about the impact these medications may have on thermoregulation and fluid balance in the body.<br \/>Take a first aid course to learn what to do in the event of heatstroke and other emergencies. Everyone needs to know how to react.<br \/>If you have health problems:<\/p>\n<p>Keep your medication below 25\u00b0C or in the refrigerator (read the instructions on storing the medication in the package leaflet).<br \/>Seek medical advice if you have a chronic illness or are taking multiple medications.<br \/>If you or others around you feel unwell:<\/p>\n<p>Seek help if you feel dizzy, weak, faint, anxious, or extremely thirsty and have a severe headache; go to a cooler area as soon as possible and take your temperature.<br \/>Drink water or fruit juice to replenish fluids.<br \/>Calm down and lie down in a cool room if you have painful cramps, most often in the legs, arms, or stomach, often after work or exercise in very hot weather, drink fluids containing electrolytes, and seek medical attention if the cramps persist for more than an hour.<br \/>Consult a doctor if you have other symptoms or if the symptoms described last longer.<br \/>If a family member or someone you are helping has hot, dry skin or delirium (talking irrationally and being restless), cramps, and\/or is unconscious, call a doctor\/ambulance immediately. While waiting for the doctor\/ambulance, place the person in a cool room in a horizontal position, elevate the legs and hips, remove clothing and begin external cooling &#8211; such as cold compresses on the neck, armpits and groin with a fan and spraying the skin with water at a temperature of 25 &#8211; 30 \u00b0C. Measure the body temperature. Cool the person until the body temperature drops below 38 \u00b0C. Do not give acetylsalicylic acid or paracetamol. Zbog toplinskih valova svijet ve\u0107 sada osje\u0107a \u0161tetne u\u010dinke a oni \u0107e se vjerojatno i pove\u0107ati. U Europi je zabilje\u017een porast smrtnosti povezan s velikim vru\u0107inama, a procjene ukazuju na vjerojatnost pove\u0107anja zdravstvenih rizika zbog toplinskih valova koji uzrokuju ozbiljne zdravstvene i socijalne posljedice. Idealno bi bilo sobnu temperaturu dr\u017eati ispod 32 \u00b0C danju i ispod 24 \u00b0C no\u0107u. To je posebno va\u017eno za djecu ili ako ste osoba starija od 60 godina te ako imate kroni\u010dne zdravstvene probleme.<\/li><li><b>Koristite hladniji no\u0107ni zrak<\/b>\u00a0da rashladite svoj dom. Otvorite sve prozore ili rolete tijekom no\u0107i i ranih jutarnjih sati kada je vanjska temperatura ni\u017ea (ako je to mogu\u0107e).<\/li><li><b>Smanjite koli\u010dinu vru\u0107eg zraka unutar stana ili ku\u0107e.<\/b>\u00a0Danju zatvorite prozore i rolete (ako ih imate), naro\u010dito one koji su okrenuti prema suncu. Ugasite sva umjetna svjetla i \u0161to je vi\u0161e mogu\u0107e elektri\u010dnih ure\u0111aja.<\/li><li><b>Stavite zaslone,<\/b>\u00a0draperije, tende na prozore koji dobivaju jutarnje ili popodnevno sunce.<\/li><li>Kada uklju\u010dite ure\u0111aj za rashla\u0111ivanje (air-conditioning) zatvorite vrata i prozore kako ne bi tro\u0161ili vi\u0161e energije nego \u0161to je potrebno.<\/li><li><b>Elektri\u010dni ventilatori<\/b>\u00a0mogu pru\u017eiti olak\u0161anje i osvje\u017eenje, ali ako je temperatura iznad 35 \u00b0C ne\u0107e sprije\u010diti bolesti vezane uz velike vru\u0107ine.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Klonite se vru\u0107ine:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li><b>Sklonite se u najhladniju prostoriju<\/b>\u00a0stana\/ku\u0107e, posebno no\u0107u.<\/li><li>Ako stan\/ku\u0107u ne mo\u017eete dr\u017eati hladnim,\u00a0<b>provedite 2 - 3 sata dnevno u hladnom prostoru<\/b>\u00a0(npr. javna zgrada koja je hla\u0111ena).<\/li><li><b>Izbjegavajte izlazak<\/b>\u00a0u najtoplijem dijelu dana.<\/li><li><b>Izbjegavajte naporan fizi\u010dki rad.<\/b>\u00a0Ako morate naporno raditi \u010dinite to u najhladnije doba dana, \u0161to je obi\u010dno ujutro izme\u0111u 4 i 7 sati.<\/li><li><b>Potra\u017eite sjenu.<\/b><\/li><li><b>Ne ostavljajte djecu ili \u017eivotinje u parkiranom vozilu.<\/b><\/li><li><b>Redovito koristite kreme sa za\u0161titnim faktorom od \u0161tetnog UV zra\u010denja.<\/b>\u00a0Naro\u010ditu brigu valja posvetiti novoro\u0111en\u010dadi i maloj djeci. Za njih treba koristiti za\u0161titne kreme s najve\u0107im faktorom.<\/li><li>Prilagodite svoje\u00a0<b>izlaganje sun\u010devom UV zra\u010denju<\/b>\u00a0uva\u017eavaju\u0107i dnevne promjene vrijednosti UV indeksa.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Rashladite tijelo i pijte dovoljno teku\u0107ine:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li><b>Izbjegavajte boravak na suncu u razdoblju od 10 do 17 sati,<\/b>\u00a0poglavito djeca, trudnice, starije osobe i sr\u010dani bolesnici te bolesnici oboljeli od \u0161e\u0107erne bolesti<\/li><li><b>Tu\u0161irajte se ili kupajte u mlakoj vodi.<\/b>\u00a0Druga mogu\u0107nost je zamatanje u hladne mokre ru\u010dnike, hladiti se mokrom spu\u017evom, kupke za noge, itd.<\/li><li><b>Nosite laganu, \u0161iroku i svijetlu odje\u0107u<\/b>\u00a0od prirodnih materijala. Osjetljive osobe mogle bi zatrebati pomo\u0107 tijekom vru\u0107ih dana<\/li><li><b>Razgovarajte o toplinskom udaru s \u010dlanovima obitelji.<\/b>\u00a0S obzirom na svoje zdravstveno stanje i aktivnosti svaki \u010dlan obitelji treba znati koje mjere za\u0161tite mora poduzeti.<\/li><li><b>Ako je netko koga poznajete pod rizikom pomognite mu<\/b>\u00a0da dobije savjet i podr\u0161ku. Starije osobe i bolesnike koji \u017eive sami treba posjetiti barem jednom dnevno.<\/li><li><b>Ako uzimaju lijekove, provjerite s lije\u010dnikom<\/b>\u00a0koji ih lije\u010di kakav utjecaj ti lijekovi mogu imati na termoregulaciju i ravnote\u017eu teku\u0107ine u tijelu.<\/li><li>Polo\u017eite\u00a0<b>te\u010daj prve pomo\u0107i<\/b>\u00a0kako bi nau\u010dili \u0161to poduzeti u slu\u010daju toplinskog udara i ostalih hitnih stanja. Dok \u010dekate na lije\u010dnika\/hitnu pomo\u0107, smjestite osobu u hladnu prostoriju u vodoravan polo\u017eaj, podignite joj noge i kukove, odstranite odje\u0107u i po\u010dnite s vanjskim hla\u0111enjem - kao \u0161to su hladni oblozi na vrat, pazuhe i prepone uz ventilator i \u0161pricanje ko\u017ee vodom temperature 25 - 30 \u00b0C. Mjerite temperaturu tijela. Hladite osobu dok se tjelesna temperatura ne spusti ispod 38 \u00b0C. Nemojte davati acetilsalicilnu kiselinu ili paracetamol.
